In a significant addition to Assam’s biodiversity, researchers have discovered a rare species of fish from the deep underground waters of Goralpara district. The discovery has been described as unique due to the fish’s distinct physical characteristics and habitat. The research was conducted jointly by scientists from Gauhati University, Cotton University, and Manipur University. According to the researchers, the fish does not inhabit regular rivers or ponds but survives in underground water systems, making it highly unusual.
