Another couple, Surajit and Bijaya Mandal, have been arrested by Guwahati Police for allegedly celebrating Bijaya’s birthday on the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu and causing obstruction to traffic. The incident comes days after similar action against others for using public infrastructure as a private celebration venue.
Earlier, Bharalumukh Police arrested a businessman for celebrating his wife’s on the bridge connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati, turning the bridge into a private party zone.
Bharalumukh Police on Wednesday detained Surajit Mandal and Bijaya Mandal, residents of Fatasil area of Guwahati, after a video of their birthday celebrations went viral on various social media platforms.
The duo, along with a few friends, allegedly blocked the bridge, besides using electronic sparklers and firecrackers right on the bridge, drawing public criticism.
Following a massive backlash online after their video went viral, cops swung into action and detained the couple besides also seizing the Mahindra Thar used during the celebrations.
