Seven persons were detained after Nagaon Police raided an alleged gambling den operating from a hotel in Nagaon town on Thursday night, leading to the seizure of cash and gambling-related materials. The police action has also sparked concern after a journalist covering the raid alleged that an attempt was made to assault the reporter and damage the camera during the incident. According to the police, the raid was carried out on the fifth floor of Hotel Blue Bird following specific information about alleged gambling activities being conducted at the premises. Officers entered the hotel and detained seven individuals who were allegedly present during the operation. Cash and materials believed to have been used for gambling were seized from the location. However, police have not yet disclosed the amount of cash recovered.
Police said Manjit Sharma and Amit Roy have been accused of operating the alleged gambling den from the hotel. The hotel is owned by Partha Saikia. Investigators are examining the circumstances under which the alleged gambling activities were being conducted and whether additional persons were involved. During the operation, a journalist who had reached the hotel to report on the police raid alleged that some individuals present at the scene attempted to assault the reporter and damage the camera while the incident was being documented. No official statement has yet been issued by the police regarding the allegation, and it remains under examination.
