In a significant move to strengthen cyber security and provide faster assistance to victims of online financial fraud, the Assam Government on Tuesday launched the “e-Zero FIR Initiative”.
Under this new system, complaints related to cyber financial crimes filed through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) or the cyber crime helpline 1930 will be automatically converted into Zero FIRs, enabling immediate police action.
Announcing the initiative, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said Assam has become one of the first states in the country to implement this technology-driven system, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a “Cyber Secure Bharat.”
As per the new mechanism, cyber financial fraud complaints involving amounts exceeding ₹10 lakh will be automatically registered as Zero FIRs. This will allow police to begin investigations immediately without any jurisdiction-related restrictions.
The initiative is expected to simplify the process of registering cyber crime cases, accelerate investigations, facilitate quick freezing of fraudulent transactions and increase the possibility of recovering money lost to cyber criminals.
Chief Minister Sarma credited Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his guidance in introducing the initiative and praised Assam Police for ensuring the speedy implementation of the system.
“With this prompt and technology-driven mechanism, citizens can expect quicker action against cyber criminals and stronger protection for their hard-earned money,” the Chief Minister said.
The e-Zero FIR initiative is aimed at improving Assam’s cyber crime response system and providing timely support and relief to victims of online financial fraud.
