The Assam government will honour 15 teachers from 14 districts with the State Teachers’ Award 2026 on Saturday, September 5, recognising their contribution to school education across the state on the 65th Teachers’ Day. The award ceremony will be held at the Sri Sri Damodardeva International Auditorium in Guwahati. The awardees include principals, postgraduate teachers, assistant teachers, head teachers and a headmaster serving in secondary and elementary education institutions. A debate has intensified over the proposal to reduce the Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ) around Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve to just one kilometre. Conservationists argue that such a move would undermine decades of protection and insist that the buffer width must be determined scientifically through an independent study involving local communities.
