With the establishment of the Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test facility in Jagiroad, a scam targeting unemployed youths has emerged, where fraudulent actors promise jobs connected to the project. The Morigaon police have arrested several individuals involved and attached bank accounts containing approximately ₹25 lakh as ordered by the court. The scammers, including a lecturer named Saiqul Islam, lured victims by spreading false promises on social media and conducting fake training sessions, initially charging ₹5,000 and later demanding ₹20,000 to ₹30,000 for issuing provisional and final appointment letters. A crude oil pipeline of Oil India Limited (OIL) reportedly burst late on Monday night in the Salmari–Digholia area under Tingkhong in Assam’s Dibrugarh district, causing panic among residents and damage to nearby farmland and fish-rearing ponds. A fresh political debate has started in Assam after Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly, Debabrata Saikia, wrote to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar alleging serious problems in the draft electoral rolls published after a Special Revision ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
