Several literary personalities in Sikkim have expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Government of Sikkim for installing a statue of noted poet Jiwan Theeng at Jiwan Theeng Marg in the Development Area of Gangtok.
Members of the literary community described the installation as a meaningful tribute to the late poet, who is widely remembered for his contribution to Nepali literature in the state. Jiwan Theeng was popularly known by the honorary title “Mato Kavi”, a recognition earned through his literary works and influence on Nepali writing and poetry in Sikkim.
Literary personalities said the decision of the state government to honour the poet through a public statue reflects respect for Sikkim’s literary and cultural heritage. They noted that Jiwan Theeng’s writings continue to inspire readers and writers across generations and remain an important part of Nepali literature in the region.
According to members of the literary fraternity, the statue will also serve as a source of inspiration for younger generations by helping them learn about the life, contribution and literary legacy of the poet. They said such initiatives play an important role in preserving the identity, language and cultural history of the state.
