The family members of late Jiwan Theeng, popularly known as “Mato Kavi”, have expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prem Singh Tamang and the Government of Sikkim for installing the statue of the noted poet at Jiwan Theeng Marg in the Development Area of Gangtok.
In a statement issued by the family, they said the installation of the statue fulfilled a long-pending aspiration and marked a proud and historic moment for the people of Sikkim as well as admirers of the late poet’s literary legacy.
The family stated that honouring a respected literary figure like Jiwan Theeng reflects deep respect for the culture, language and heritage of Sikkim. They added that the initiative would help preserve and promote the legacy of “Mato Kavi” for future generations.
The family also extended appreciation to Sikkim Tamang Buddhist Association, Chiya Kavita Sikkim, Sikkim Akademi and Press Club of Sikkim for their collective support and contribution towards honouring the literary icon of the state.
According to the family, Jiwan Theeng’s contribution to Nepali literature and the literary culture of Sikkim continues to inspire readers, writers and literary enthusiasts across the state. They said the statue at a prominent public location in Gangtok would serve as a lasting tribute to the poet and help keep his memory alive among future generations.
