4-hr shutdown in Moreh to protest against blast

A 24-hour total shutdown imposed by civil societies in protest against the blast hit normal life in Moreh, Manipur on Sunday. A hand grenade suspected to have been lobbed by militants rocked the border town on Saturday night. There was no report of casualty, however, window panes of a resort was damaged by the impact of the blast. Though police has collected CCTV footage, no arrest has been made till the time of filing this report. Liquor to be cheaper in Meghalaya

The Meghalaya Cabinet on Friday reduced the Value Added Tax (VAT) on various brands of liquor by bringing it down from 40 per cent to 37.5 per cent as well as do away with the 25 per cent lifting charges.  Excise Minister Kyrmen Shylla said that the decision to reduce VAT would not affect the revenue generation, because the volume of sales would increase after the price of liquor has come down.
