A major fire broke out in Assam’s Jorhat district on Sunday night, destroying four houses in a densely populated locality and causing panic among residents. The incident took place at Raja Maidam in the Gojpuria area, where a series of LPG cylinder explosions is believed to have triggered the blaze. In the Khanapara area of Guwahati, a campaign was initiated by the state’s Handloom and Textiles Department to curb the sale of power loom made gamosas, referred to as "gummosis", due to complaints that business owners were misrepresenting machine produced gamosas as authentic handloom gamosas. As part of this campaign, the Department of Handloom and Textiles dispatched officials to various shops suspected of selling power loom gummosis and collected samples for verification at a total of 13 different shops. On Sunday, a guy leaped from the recently opened Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu in Guwahati. It is thought that he perished in the Brahmaputra River. Rabil Ali, a native of Keotkuchi village in the Barpeta district, has been identified as the man. Ali had been employed as a laborer when the bridge connecting the city's north and south banks over the Brahmaputra River was being built. Regional party, Assam Jatiya Parishad has strongly condemned the “alleged harassment” of its Central Guwahati constituency candidate Kunki Chowdhury by the Assam Police and has lodged a formal complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer of Assam. Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) candidate from the Guwahati Central constituency, Kunki Chowdhury, appeared before the police at Panbazar Police Station today after being summoned in connection with an election-related case.  Chowdhury reached the police station in the morning after receiving a notice directing her to appear by 11 am, with a warning that non-compliance could lead to her arrest. The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has filed a prosecution complaint before a special PMLA court in Guwahati against former officials of the National Project Construction Corporation (NPCC) and private contractors in connection with an alleged bribery and money laundering case involving border infrastructure contracts worth approximately ₹60.30 crore.
