Binance donates Rs 3.3 crore to Goonj for Assam flood relief

Binance Charity, the philanthropic arm of Binance, has announced a donation of Rs 3.3 crore ($350,000) to Goonj’sRahat Initiative to support emergency relief and recovery efforts for families affected by devastating floods in Assam. The contribution is expected to reach around 27,500 families across 349 flood-affected villages in Golaghat, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Bajali, Dhemaji, Sonitpur and Jorhat districts. The funds will support the distribution of essential relief materials, including household items, hygiene supplies, tarpaulins and other necessities based on the requirements of affected communities.

According to the release, floods have affected more than 12 lakh people across 25 districts and 2,734 villages in Assam at various stages this year, with the reported death toll rising to 105. SB Seker, Head of APAC at Binance, said, “By working with Goonj’s ‘Rahat Initiative’, we hope our contribution will provide urgent relief on the ground and help families begin the long journey of rebuilding and recovering.” Goonj founder Anshu Gupta said the scale of destruction had been staggering, with continued rains forcing many people into makeshift arrangements and wiping out stored grain and livelihoods.

In Guwahati, the contribution highlights the increasing role of private-sector and philanthropic organisations in supporting disaster-hit communities in Assam, while also underlining the wider economic disruption caused by recurring floods across the state. Relief and recovery spending can provide support to local supply chains dealing in essential household goods, hygiene products and emergency materials as affected districts begin rebuilding.
