India’s left-arm spinner Manav Suthar has etched his name in first-class cricket history after achieving a rare feat that had been recorded only once before. Suthar, who recently made his Test debut against Afghanistan, is enjoying an excellent run in red-ball cricket.
The Rajasthan-born spinner was part of India’s two-Test series victory over Sri Lanka before heading to England to join Warwickshire for the County Championship.
Suthar played a key role in Warwickshire’s emphatic win over Glamorgan at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. Warwickshire completed an innings-and-257-run victory after dismissing Glamorgan for just 69 in the first innings and 65 in the second.
Suthar’s figures were particularly remarkable. He did not concede a single run in either innings while picking up three wickets in total. All three of his dismissals came by way of the bowled method.
With this performance, Suthar entered an exclusive club in first-class cricket. He has become only the second player in history to take at least one wicket in both innings of a match without conceding a run.
England’s Tom Hayward was the first player to achieve this remarkable feat, doing so in 1895.
