Hindustan Zinc Ltd has hosted Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy at its Rajpura Dariba Complex in Rajasthan, where the minister reviewed the company’s underground mining operations, integrated smelting facilities and community development initiatives. During the visit, the minister toured the Sindesar Khurd Mine, one of the world’s largest silver-producing underground mines, and the Dariba Smelting Complex. He reviewed tele-remote mining systems, safety infrastructure, paste filling technology and remote-operated equipment used by the company for underground operations.
The minister also witnessed a live demonstration by India’s first women mine rescue team and interacted with workers, women mining engineers and employees at the mine site. Hindustan Zinc said the visit highlighted the strategic role of zinc, lead and silver in sectors such as renewable energy, electric mobility, defence and advanced manufacturing. Speaking during the visit, Reddy said India’s mining sector was emerging as a “modern, responsible and technology-driven growth engine” aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat and Atmanirbhar Bharat. He said responsible mining and domestic mineral security would play a key role in reducing import dependence and strengthening India’s industrial growth.
The minister also reviewed the company’s CSR initiatives, including women empowerment programmes, rural education support, healthcare outreach and safe drinking water projects across Rajasthan. In Kolkata, the visit reflects growing policy focus on domestic metals and mining capacity at a time when eastern India, including Kolkata and neighbouring industrial corridors, is witnessing rising demand for zinc and allied metals from infrastructure, galvanised steel, construction and manufacturing sectors. Market experts believe stronger domestic production capabilities could support supply stability for industries across eastern India.
