Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve has expanded market opportunities for local artisans by taking its Eco-Shop to major online platforms, a move aimed at connecting conservation efforts with sustainable livelihood opportunities for communities living around the protected area. The Eco-Shop, managed by the Kaziranga Staff Welfare Society, is now available on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) and Amazon, enabling handcrafted products made by local communities to reach customers across the country. Officials said the initiative is expected to strengthen economic opportunities for artisans and producer groups from villages located in the fringe areas of Kaziranga.
According to an official statement, the project seeks to promote products created using traditional skills, locally available materials and environmentally responsible practices. By expanding access to larger markets, authorities hope to provide a stable source of income for local communities while encouraging conservation-friendly livelihoods. The Eco-Shop has witnessed steady growth in recent years. Sales during the 2025-26 financial year reached Rs 1.87 crore, marking a significant increase from Rs 1.24 crore recorded in 2024-25. Officials said the rise in sales reflects growing demand for locally made and eco-friendly products.
The shop offers a variety of handcrafted items, including woven products, textiles, decorative articles and other goods prepared by community members residing near the national park. Many of these products showcase the region’s rich cultural traditions and craftsmanship.
