IPL Final Night Raid Leads to Major Betting Bust in Guwahati

Guwahati Police have busted an alleged Indian Premier League (IPL) betting racket operating from the city and seized cash, jewellery, luxury vehicles, digital devices and property-related documents during a raid conducted on the night of the IPL final.The operation was carried out following extensive intelligence gathering by a specially constituted police team. According to officials, the team acted on specific inputs regarding illegal betting activities and conducted a raid while the IPL final match was underway. Addressing the media, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Shambhavi Mishra said the operation was led by the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police and involved the Assistant Commissioner of Police of Noonmati, Officers-in-Charge and other police personnel.

Police said the raid was conducted at the residence of the prime accused, identified as Alok Jain. Investigators alleged that live betting activities were taking place at the premises when the police team arrived. According to the police, Jain had allegedly been involved in illegal gambling operations for a considerable period. During the search, officers recovered around 16 mobile phones, two laptops, two monitors and several tablet devices. Investigators believe these electronic devices were being used to manage betting activities and stream IPL matches in real time. Apart from digital equipment, police seized ₹80,000 in cash and a substantial quantity of jewellery from the premises. Officials also recovered several luxury vehicles believed to be linked to the accused.

One of the significant findings during the operation was the recovery of around 26 land-related documents connected to properties located in different parts of Guwahati. Police suspect these documents may provide crucial leads regarding the financial scale of the alleged betting network. Officials said the seized materials are now being examined as part of the ongoing investigation. The financial assets, electronic devices and property records will be scrutinised to determine the extent of the betting operation and identify possible financial connections and beneficiaries. Police have not ruled out further action in the case. Investigators said additional arrests and legal proceedings may follow depending on the evidence gathered during the probe.
