Drivn, Tata Motors join hands to accelerate electric truck adoption

EV leasing platform Drivn has signed a memorandum of understanding with Tata Motors to explore leasing-based deployment of electric commercial vehicles for fleet operators, aiming to address financing and other barriers to large-scale fleet electrification in India. Under the partnership, Drivn will offer customised operating lease solutions for Tata Motors’ electric commercial vehicle portfolio. The companies said the collaboration would help fleet operators transition to electric vehicles through simpler financing, while also addressing challenges related to deployment, charging infrastructure and vehicle uptime. Rajesh Kaul, Vice President and Business Head – Trucks at Tata Motors, said the partnership would make electric trucks more accessible and support India’s transition towards sustainable transportation.

Drivn CEO and Co-founder Manav Bansal said the company intends to deploy more than 1,000 electric trucks over the next two years through the partnership. Alpna Jain, Co-founder and Chief Business Officer, said the collaboration would combine Tata Motors’ market presence with leasing, maintenance, uptime support and technology-driven efficiency monitoring. Tata Motors recently introduced an electric truck portfolio ranging from 7 to 55 tonnes under its Tata Trucks.ev brand, based on the I-MOEV architecture, targeting applications such as e-commerce logistics, construction material movement and port operations.

In Kolkata, the partnership could be relevant for logistics operators serving eastern India’s growing e-commerce, industrial and port-linked transport sectors. Leasing-based financing may help fleet operators in Kolkata and the wider eastern region reduce high upfront investment while exploring a gradual transition towards electric commercial fleets.
