Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on January 5 that Assam Police had apprehended five alleged drug dealers and found heroin valued at Rs 2 crore after stopping two cars in the Cachar district. The Chief Minister claims that Cachar Police conducted the operation at the Sunabarighat Bypass, when the two cars were pulled up for a regular inspection.
