Assam Police have arrested three persons and recovered stolen gold and silver jewellery in connection with a burglary case reported under the jurisdiction of Boko Police Station in Kamrup district. The arrests were made during an investigation into a theft that took place at a residence in the Mandira area last month. Police said the breakthrough came after sustained efforts by investigators led to the recovery of several stolen items and the identification of individuals allegedly involved in the crime. According to police, the burglary occurred on the night of May 4 at the residence of Gajibar Rahman of No. 4 Malibari Pathar, which falls under the jurisdiction of Mandira Outpost. Following the incident, a case was registered at Boko Police Station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation was launched.
The investigation was carried out by a police team headed by Sub-Inspector Jyotirmoy Das, In-Charge of Mandira Outpost. During the course of the probe, police arrested the main accused, identified as Sanidul Islam, son of Rofiqul Islam and a resident of Mahtoli under Boko Police Station. During interrogation, the accused allegedly informed investigators that he had sold the stolen gold and silver ornaments to jewellery traders operating in Jorshimuli Bazar. Acting on the information, the police team conducted further inquiries and detained two jewellery shop owners suspected of receiving the stolen items. The two arrested shop owners were identified as Nilchan Ali, son of Sahed Ali and a resident of Baghmara, Tapapathar under Chaygaon Police Station, and Fazar Ali, son of Paltan Ali and a resident of Jorshimuli Bazar under Chaygaon Police Station.
Police recovered several items believed to have been stolen during the burglary. The recovered articles included four grams of melted gold, a pair of gold bangles, four pairs of silver anklets, a silver bracelet and a silver chain. Officials said all recovered items were seized following legal procedures and proper seizure lists were prepared. The jewellery has been taken into police custody as evidence in the case.
