Following their apparent food poisoning on Sunday evening, ten students from Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Chokihola, close to the Golaghat-Karbi Anglong border, were admitted to Golaghat Swahid Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital. Following their meal of moong dal, cauliflower, and eggs, the children had a fever and vomiting, which led to the incident at the school hostel.
