Yashoda Hospital has organised a Blood Cancer Survivor Meet in Siliguri. The aim of this survivor meeting is to encourage people to come forward and help those affected by blood cancer.”


“The theme of this year’s World Blood Cancer Day is, “Diagnosis Today. Eliminate Tomorrow.” Early detection of blood cancers can significantly increase the chances of a complete cure and help build a positive future. Senior Haematologist and BMT Specialist Dr. Ganesh Jaishetwar said, “To raise awareness about blood cancer and to emphasise that blood cancer is not only completely curable but after successful treatment these patients can lead a completely normal life”. Dr. Ganesh also highlighted the latest advances in blood cancer research and treatment. In 2023, most blood cancers will be curable with advanced treatments such as modern chemotherapy, immunotherapy, bone marrow transplants, etc.


Bone marrow transplantation has also made tremendous progress and can now be used to safely treat blood cancer in all patients. Such as Mr. Shyamal Kumar Mandal, a 67-year-old Siliguri resident who underwent BMT (Bone Marrow Transplant) three years ago for a life-threatening blood cancer called Multiple L. Myeloma. Yashoda Hospital has conducted over 300 successful bone marrow transplants over the past 8 years.”
