N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons Private Limited, has decided not to offer himself for re-appointment when his current tenure ends on February 20, 2027, the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust said on Thursday.
The Trust said its nominee directors received an email from Chandrasekaran on August 12 conveying his decision. The Sir Dorabji Tata Trust respected the decision and placed on record its appreciation for Chandrasekaran’s contribution and stewardship of Tata Sons and the Tata Group over the past decade.
The Trust said Chandrasekaran made an “immense contribution” during a period marked by significant change, growth and transformation across the Group.
The Trustees of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust have also passed a resolution to initiate the setting up of a Selection Committee at the earliest, in accordance with the Articles of Association of Tata Sons. The committee will recommend a candidate for appointment as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Chandrasekaran’s planned exit is likely to keep investors and the broader business community focused on Tata Group’s succession plans and the continuity of its long-term strategy. Kolkata, a major commercial centre in eastern India with strong links to the Tata Group’s businesses, could closely track developments around the leadership transition and its potential implications for corporate sentiment.
The Trust said it would extend full support to Tata Sons to ensure a smooth, timely and orderly leadership transition aligned with the values and long-term interests of the Group.
