Tata Motors has commenced deliveries of its Prima E.55S electric prime movers to BillionE Mobility, marking a significant step in India’s transition to zero-emission heavy-duty freight transport. The company also announced a fresh order of 250 additional electric trucks, underlining growing industry confidence in electric logistics solutions. The fleet will be rolled out in phases across major freight corridors in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Delhi NCR and Haryana, supporting long-haul transportation of steel, cement and other industrial goods.
The first batch was handed over in the presence of Tata Motors MD & CEO Girish Wagh, BillionE founder Kartikey Hariyani and Tata Motors Trucks Business Head Rajesh Kaul. Company officials highlighted that the deployment aligns with plans to scale up to 1,500 heavy-duty electric trucks over the next 6–18 months. The Prima E.55S, powered by a 450 kWh battery, offers a range of up to 350 km and features advanced technologies including an e-axle, regenerative braking and multiple safety systems, aimed at improving efficiency and reducing operating costs.
In Kolkata, the development is expected to influence eastern freight movement, particularly in steel and cement supply chains linked to the Kolkata logistics hub. Industry observers say increasing electrification in long-haul trucking could gradually reshape transport economics in the region, where demand for cost-efficient and sustainable logistics solutions is rising. Tata Motors said it will continue expanding its alternate-fuel vehicle portfolio, backed by a nationwide service network and lifecycle support solutions.
