Social Media Banned for Those Under 16 in Malaysia

Various countries around the world have been taking different measures to curb social media in order to control the calculation of global violence-ridden mindsets, criminal tendencies, indiscipline, and various misdeeds. This time, Malaysia has implemented a strict new law to control the use of social media.
According to this law, no individual in the country under the age of 16 will be able to open accounts on Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, etc. The number of social media platform users in Malaysia is currently around 80 lakh (8 million). Now, the Malaysian government will verify those accounts and take steps to cancel the accounts of children under 16 years of age. Notably, the rise of cyberbullying, trolling, online addiction, and objectionable, harmful content across the globe has severely affected the mental health, health, and well-being of children and adolescents.
The Communications and Multimedia Commission of Malaysia has informed that users under the age of 16 will face legal action if they open accounts. From now on, when opening a social media account in Malaysia, one will have to go through a mandatory verification system using identification documents, government certificates, passports, etc. The Malaysian government has also issued strict instructions to social media media companies to arrange this system.
