The Women’s Council of Citizen Action Party–Sikkim held a coordination meeting at the party headquarters in Gangtok on April 23, focusing on women’s leadership, political participation and the recently discussed “Nari Shakti Vandan Act 2026.”
The meeting was chaired by Central Executive Committee Vice President and Advisor to the Women’s Council Sanju Rai in the presence of Women’s Council leaders including Sumati Chettri and Bina Sharma.
During the meeting, district leaders from Gangtok and Pakyong presented progress reports, following which district-level Women’s Council executive committees for both districts were nominated.
Party leaders also held detailed discussions on women’s political representation and reservation policies. The party stated that women should not be restricted to only 33 per cent reservation and stressed the need to build strong and capable women leaders to ensure equal rights and justice.
Addressing the gathering, Sanju Rai expressed concern over rising crimes and violence against women in Sikkim. She said stronger political decisions and leadership would be necessary to improve women’s safety and curb corruption in the state.
She also highlighted the importance of women’s participation in decision-making and encouraged Sikkimese women to take active roles in politics and policy-making despite existing challenges.
