Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang Launches Forest Helpline, Unveils Mission to Plant One Million Oak Trees by 2047

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Tuesday inaugurated the Forest Training Institute, Bulbuley, and launched the Connect to Forest Toll-Free Helpline (1926), aimed at strengthening forest conservation and encouraging greater public participation.
Attending the on-going Sikkim Paryavaran Parv 2026 and “A Day for Mother Earth”, the Chief Minister said the initiative reflected the State government’s commitment to protecting nature and building a greener future.
“A major milestone this year is the launch of Mission Million Oak Trees by 2047. Oak forests are vital for water security, groundwater recharge, and ecological balance. Through this mission, we are investing in the long-term environmental future of Sikkim,” Tamang said.
“Our commitment to water conservation is already showing results. Over the past two years, we have provided many Roof Rainwater Harvesting structures and rejuvenated multiple natural springs across the State,” he said.
“Sikkim continues to lead the nation in environmental conservation and the recognition of Khecheopalri Wetland as Sikkim’s first Ramsar Site,” he said.
Sikkim Paryavaran Parv 2026 will continue till July 14, with plantation drives, cleanliness campaigns, and community participation across the State.
While returning to the capital after attending the Paryavaran Parva at 9th Mile, JN Road, the Chief Minister stopped his carcade for seven minutes as a tribute to Mother Earth.
“This peaceful pause reminded us to slow down, cherish nature, and strengthen our resolve to protect the environment,” he said.
