Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Western Range, Yeshe Tsering Gwatso, on August 27 visited several sensitive stretches along the India-Bangladesh border in Assam’s Dhubri district to review the security situation and assess measures aimed at preventing cross-border illegal activities.
During the visit, the DIG inspected important border locations, including Patamari, Takimari and Sastar Ghat, and reviewed the existing security arrangements along the international border.
Gwatso also interacted with local residents in the border areas to understand their concerns and gather feedback on issues affecting the region. The interaction was aimed at strengthening coordination between security agencies and people living in villages close to the international border.
The DIG was accompanied during the visit by Dhubri Superintendent of Police Debasish Borah, senior officers of the Dhubri Police administration and representatives of the Border Security Force (BSF).
Speaking to the media, Gwatso appreciated the efforts of Dhubri Police in maintaining security along the border and taking action against illegal activities in the sensitive areas.
He particularly highlighted the role of the police in tackling cattle smuggling and the illegal drug trade, which remain among the key concerns for security agencies operating in the border region.
The visit formed part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen surveillance along the India-Bangladesh border and review the coordination between different security agencies.
Officials are also working to improve cooperation among the police, the BSF and local communities, with residents of border villages playing an important role in providing information and helping security agencies remain alert to suspicious activities.
The review of the border areas comes as security agencies continue to maintain surveillance across sensitive stretches of Dhubri district and take measures to prevent illegal cross-border movement and other unlawful activities.
