Rahul Gandhi, the Wayanad-based Congressman who was recently found guilty of criminal defamation, has been expelled from the Lok Sabha. According to the terms of Article 102 (1)(e) of the Constitution and Section 8 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, Mr. Gandhi is ineligible to serve in the Lok Sabha as of the date of his conviction, according to a notification from the lower house signed by Secretary General Utpal Kumar Singh. For his claimed remark that “why all thieves have Modi surname” during the 2019 parliamentary election campaign, Mr. Gandhi received a two-year prison term.
