Nagaon is set to become the hub of junior badminton in Assam as the 3rd All Assam Yonex-Sunrise and Haripada Kumar Memorial Badminton Ranking Tournament gets underway tomorrow at the Indoor Stadium.
Organized by the Assam Badminton Association under the initiative of the Nagaon Sports Association, the five-day event will run from May 23 to May 27. The tournament is dedicated to the memory of Haripada Kumar and carries ranking points crucial for state-level players.
The competition will see participation from more than 500 young shuttlers representing 16 districts across Assam. Matches will be held across multiple age groups for both boys and girls, starting from under-9 and going up to under-19 categories.
The large turnout highlights the growing popularity of badminton at the grassroots level in the state. Officials from the Nagaon Sports Association said all arrangements at the Indoor Stadium have been completed to accommodate the players, coaches, and officials over the five days.
The tournament is expected to showcase emerging talent and provide a competitive platform for Assam’s junior players as they aim to climb the state rankings.
