Master Trainers’ Training Programme for Census 2027 Commences in Guwahati

The four-day fully residential Master Trainers’ Training Programme of Assam for the 1st Phase of Census 2027, namely the Houselisting and Housing Census (HLO), commenced at the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahati today.
The training programme, being conducted from June 9 to 12, has brought together 59 Master Trainers comprising 44 officials from various districts of Assam and 15 officials from the Directorate of Census Operations (DCO), Assam. The programme aims to build a strong pool of trainers who will train 1109 Field Trainers. These Field Trainers will subsequently impart training to 83,535 Enumerators and Supervisors for the effective implementation of Census 2027 across the State.
The inaugural session was graced by Biswajit Pegu, Director of Census-cum-Chief Principal Census Officer, Assam, Jatin Bora, Secretary, General Administration Department, Government of Assam, Pritam Dutta, Director (ENP), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India and IIE, Guwahati, Partha Pegu, State Government Nodal Officer for Census 2027 and Additional Secretary, General Administration Department, Government of Assam, among others.
Addressing the participants, the dignitaries underscored the significance of Census 2027 as a vital national exercise that supports evidence-based planning, governance and policy formulation. They highlighted the crucial role of Master Trainers in ensuring the success of the Census through effective training of field-level functionaries and adherence to high standards of data collection.
Technical sessions conducted on the opening day focused on training skills and key components of the Houselisting and Housing Census. Topics included census concepts, operational procedures, field protocols, and the use of digital tools and applications developed for Census 2027. Interactive discussions and practical demonstrations provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of their responsibilities and training methodologies.
The participants are being trained in two batches to facilitate focused learning and effective interaction. The programme will continue over the next three days with intensive technical and practical sessions aimed at strengthening the capacity of the Master Trainers to conduct cascading training programmes across the State.
