The Assam government has identified 12 people from the state who remain untraced following the flash flood incident in Nepal, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Friday.
Sarma said authorities were making efforts to establish contact with the people and ensure their safe rescue. The information was shared in a post on X on August 28 along with a list of the people reported untraced.
“Till now we have been able to establish details of 12 people from Assam who are yet to be traced in Nepal. Efforts are underway to establish connection with them and safely rescue them,” the chief minister said.
According to the list, the people belong to several districts and areas of Assam, including Karbi Anglong, Golaghat, Hojai, Kamrup Metropolitan and Nalbari.
Three of those listed are from Daidak village under Dokmoka police station in Karbi Anglong district. They have been identified as Rhituopurno Brahma, Montri Basumatary and Soneswar Narzary.
Rahul Daimary, from Jaipukhuri under Merapani police station in Golaghat district, is also among those whose whereabouts have not yet been established. Shatadal Nath from Doboka in Hojai district is another person named in the list.
The list also includes people from Guwahati and Nalbari. Pankaj Naug, a resident of Rukmini Gaon in Guwahati, has been reported untraced.
From Nalbari, the list includes Pankaj Barman, Arun Mahanta and Samar Bezbaruah. Dr Dipali Sarkar and Manash Kr Ghosh, both from Lankeshwar in Guwahati, are also among those listed.
Dr Tirtha Chaliha of Nalbari Medical College and Hospital has also been included in the list of people yet to be traced.
