Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya has announced a 70 per cent reduction in his official convoy as part of efforts to support fuel conservation following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal amid the ongoing crisis in West Asia. According to an official statement issued on May 14, the Governor has also directed steps to reduce electricity consumption at Lok Bhavan in Guwahati as part of a wider initiative aimed at conserving resources and improving administrative efficiency. The Raj Bhavan said the decision was taken in view of the need to encourage responsible use of fuel and energy at a time when concerns over global fuel supply and rising consumption have come into focus due to geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
Officials stated that Acharya had already introduced a 10 per cent reduction in standard fuel usage earlier under ongoing sustainability measures. The latest move, they said, is part of a broader attempt to promote conservation practices within government functioning. Speaking on the initiative, the Governor said that small but meaningful changes in daily administrative practices could contribute significantly towards saving national resources and creating a more sustainable future. He also expressed hope that the decision would inspire institutions as well as citizens to adopt eco-friendly and responsible habits in the larger national interest.
The Raj Bhavan further said that the initiative is in line with the Centre’s vision of sustainable development and the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission, which promotes self-reliance and efficient use of resources across sectors.
