The National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM), in collaboration with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), conducted the Eastern Regional Round of the National Financial Literacy Quiz (NFLQ) 2026 at St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata, on August 22 and 23.
The two-day competition brought together undergraduate and postgraduate students from Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal and Odisha, testing their knowledge of financial markets, investment principles, investor protection and responsible financial practices.
More than four lakh students participated in the college and online qualifying rounds of the nationwide initiative, with top teams progressing to regional competitions across six zones.
In the undergraduate category, St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, secured the first prize of Rs 40,000, followed by THK Jain College and TrivenideviBhalotia College. In the postgraduate category, the University of Kalyani emerged first, while L. N. Mishra Institute of Economic Development & Social Change, Patna, and ICFAI Business School Kolkata secured the second and third positions respectively.
A total of 12 undergraduate and 12 postgraduate institutions from the Eastern Zone qualified for the National Rounds.
NISM Director Sashi Krishnan said financial literacy had become an important life skill as young Indians increasingly engage with financial products and markets. SEBI Chief General Manager Vikas S.S. said financial awareness was crucial for enabling informed and responsible decision-making.
The regional rounds are being held from July to September across six cities, including Guwahati, with the National Finale scheduled for November at the NISM Campus in Patalganga, Rasayani, Maharashtra.
