The India Meteorological Department forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in Assam and northeastern states over the next three to four days. This has led the Government to issue warnings for potential flooding, flash floods, waterlogging, and landslides in vulnerable areas. Rainfall and thunderstorms are expected from July 30 to August 1 in parts of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland, influenced by a prevailing weather system over neighboring regions, particularly affecting Upper Assam districts.
An orange alert has been issued for Tinsukia district in Assam and for Mon, Mokokchung, and Wokha districts in Nagaland due to expected heavy rainfall and surface runoff. The IMD predicts widespread rainfall of 6 cm to 11 cm across various districts in Arunachal Pradesh, with isolated areas possibly receiving 12 cm to 20 cm. The ASDMA warns that this rainfall could exacerbate waterlogging, cause urban flooding and flash floods, disrupt traffic, and lead to localized landslides. All district administrations have been placed on alert to prepare for potential weather-related emergencies.
