Flipkart Targets Smaller Cities as Amazon Expands Rapid Delivery Network

Walmart-owned Flipkart and Amazon are accelerating their expansion in India’s rapidly growing quick commerce sector as competition intensifies in the market for ultra-fast deliveries. The two global e-commerce giants are focusing on expanding their presence beyond major metropolitan areas and into smaller cities, where demand for rapid delivery services continues to rise.

Quick commerce, which promises delivery of products ranging from groceries and household essentials to electronics within 10 to 30 minutes, has transformed consumer shopping habits across India. While domestic players such as Blinkit and Swiggy Instamart currently dominate the segment, Flipkart and Amazon are investing heavily to strengthen their positions.

Flipkart announced that its network of quick commerce stores has reached 1,000 locations and is expected to grow to 1,500 within the next few months. The company said that smaller towns and cities now account for nearly 70 percent of its presence across more than 130 cities. According to company officials, customers in these markets tend to place larger-value orders while remaining highly price conscious.

Amazon, meanwhile, revealed plans to expand its “Amazon Now” service from more than 15 cities to 300 cities across India. The move reflects the company’s commitment to capturing a larger share of the fast-growing market.

Industry data indicates that domestic rivals still maintain a significant lead in daily order volumes. However, both Amazon and Flipkart are banking on aggressive expansion, wider product offerings and improved logistics to close the gap.

As India’s quick commerce industry continues to evolve, competition is expected to intensify, benefiting consumers through greater convenience, broader product choices and faster delivery services.
