Crime Branch Probe Deepens as Pawan Khera Links Randeep Singh Surjewala During Questioning

Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala did not appear before the Crime Branch on Saturday despite being summoned in connection with the case registered against Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera over remarks linked to Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

According to reports, Surjewala had been directed to appear before investigators as part of the ongoing probe into statements allegedly made by Khera regarding Riniki Bhuyan Sharma.Sources said that during questioning by the Crime Branch, Khera had reportedly referred to Surjewala in connection with the matter, following which investigators issued the summons.The case against Khera was registered over allegations that he made false accusations against the Assam Chief Minister’s wife during the controversy related to passport issues that had triggered political exchanges between the BJP and the Congress.

Officials said the Crime Branch is continuing its investigation into the case. No official statement was immediately issued on Surjewala’s absence before investigators on Saturday.
