The investigation into the distressing incident aboard flydubai flight FZ1073 has uncovered that the co-pilot sought to commit a “terrorist act,” following a Saturday statement by UAE Attorney-General and Federal Prosecutor Dr Hamad Saif Al Shamsi through the WAM News Agency confirming that the co-pilot launched his plot mid-air by attacking the captain within the flight deck. Preliminary probe conclusions reveal that the Omani co-pilot brandished a crash axe in a bid to take over the aircraft’s flight controls, and authorities are aggressively maintaining their investigations to map out the complete context, motives, and any underlying connections, alongside finalizing technical exams and processing physical and digital evidence. Attorney-General Shamsi stressed that the concluding findings will receive an official announcement following the completion of all required legal and investigative actions, and earlier in the day, the 29-year-old Omani co-pilot accused of assaulting Indian captain Smit Machchhar was named as Hamam Al-Hammami. Al-Hammami, who was born in the UAE to an Omani father and Syrian mother and spent many years in the country, listed his education on LinkedIn as having taken place at Buckinghamshire New University in England. Moreover, reports from Al Arabiya English citing internal sources indicated that he had previously been barred from piloting flights in Oman due to apprehensions concerning alleged extremist perspectives, with sources adding that he spent extended periods outside Oman, including Syria, where exposure to extremist ideologies allegedly occurred.
