Construction equipment industry eyes $15 billion market by 2030 as ICEMA charts path to trillion-dollar economy

India’s construction equipment industry is positioning itself as a key pillar of the country’s infrastructure and manufacturing ambitions, with the sector targeting growth from an estimated $10 billion in FY25 to $15 billion by 2030, industry body ICEMA said at its Annual Session 2026 in New Delhi. The session, themed “Machines that Build India — CE at the Heart of a Trillion-Dollar Economy”, brought together Union Ministers H.D. Kumaraswamy and G. Kishan Reddy, NITI Aayog Member Dr. R. Balasubramaniam and senior government officials. Discussions focused on the proposed Construction Infrastructure Equipment (CIE) Scheme, localisation, mining mechanisation, trade and exports.

The industry recorded sales of 1,36,995 units in FY26, down around 2% from FY25, as domestic demand declined nearly 7% amid slower infrastructure execution. However, exports rose about 32%, highlighting improving global competitiveness. ICEMA expects a return to growth in FY27, supported by ₹12.2 lakh crore in public capex and faster project execution.

In Kolkata and eastern India, stronger infrastructure, road, mining and logistics investment could support demand for construction and earthmoving equipment, while increased localisation could strengthen regional supply and service ecosystems. ICEMA President Deepak Shetty said the proposed CIE Scheme could help scale manufacturing, deepen localisation, strengthen exports and accelerate technology adoption.
