31 are still missing in Odisha train Accident, says West Bengal CM

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on June 6 said at least 31 passengers from her state are still missing five days after the devastating triple train accident at Bahanaga Bazar railway station in Odisha's Balasore district. Ms Banerjee, who landed in Cuttack to review the condition of the injured passengers, said the bodies of 103 passengers from West Bengal had been identified and 86 of them had reached their destination. In West Bengal, around 200 injured persons were under treatment, she said. Odisha officials declined to comment on Ms Banerjee's statement about the 31 missing passengers.

CBI raids several locations in Bengal linked with job scam in civic body recruitment irregularities

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted raids on Wednesday at several locations in West Bengal linked to allegations of recruitment irregularities in civic bodies. The drive targeted 14 municipalities, including Dakshin Dum, Panihati, Kanchrapara, Chinsura, and Dum Dum. The CBI teams also searched the office of the state urban development department in the Salt Lake area, an official said. According to officials, there were allegations of cash for the recruitment of workers in these civic bodies, for which the search operation was on.

A worker was seriously injured when a bomb exploded while digging a pond in the land. The incident took place in Dinhata's Vetaguri South Baladanga area. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said the state has reported around 150 new Covid-19 cases in the last two days and most of the infections were mild in nature on Wednesday . "About 49 patients have been admitted to the hospital. Of them, only nine currently need oxygen support," Banerjee told reporters at the secretariat.
