The Chopra police arrested two men along with firearms. The arrested accused have been identified as Mohammad Jabir Alam and Dabir Alam. Reportedly, the police at first arrested Mohammad Jabir Alam along with firearms. Following which, he was taken into police custody. The Siliguri police, on Tuesday night, launched operations and arrested a man along with a 9mm pistol. The arrested accused has been identified as Debananda Joshi (52). In this context, East Zone ACP Swapan Sarkar stated that the accused is a resident of the Siliguri Ward No. 05 Ganganagar area. Heavy rains lashed the districts of north Bengal, leading to flooding in low lying areas of Jalpaiguri and other places on Saturday, even as the MeT department forecast heavy to very heavy showers in the region for the next two days. Several places in Mainaguri block were inundated owing to heavy rains, officials said. People in the low-lying areas are being removed to safer places, they said. Several areas of Siliguri also saw water-logging due to the incessant rains.
