During a cabinet press meeting, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma said that his government had lost many cases in lower courts and there was no analysis of them as well as review of the performance of government lawyers. Eviction drive major steps in Nagaon district

The Assam government will launch a major eviction drive on 1,200 bighas (about 397 acres) of allegedly encroached land in the Nagaon district. The exercise will be conducted from December 19 in and around Batadrava, the holy birthplace of Srimanta Shankardeva, and is likely to last for several days. On Wednesday, Rangbah Shnong of Umsaw Lum Durbar, Paul Star Lyngdoh alleged that the Assam Forest Department had moved into Meghalaya and "illegally" fenced off the agricultural land of Khasi villagers.
