Assam: Gamosa gets Geographical Indication tag

The ‘gamosa’ from province got its Geographical Indication (GI) hang on Tues. The historically woven loom product is known with its distinctive red border and floral motifs. Gamosa– the image of Assamese pride was approved for the geographical indication (GI) tag, that has been publicized within the twenty fourth Geographical Indications Journal.

GI tag is employed to spot agricultural, natural, or factory-made merchandise originating in a very aforesaid space and it ought to have a special quality or characteristics distinctive to the actual geographical indication. “The gamosa could be a ancient textile and a logo of Assamese culture,” the GI journal declared. Golaghat-based Institute of Handicraft Development applied for gamosa to be enclosed within the GI. Gamosa comes in several varieties like uka, phulam, bihuwan, tiyoni, pani, aanakota, telosh, dora.
