3.5 magnitude earthquake hits Guwahati

According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake occurred northeast of Guwahati at 12:27 PM and the magnitude of the earthquake was 3.5 which occurred in Guwahati during the afternoon period. “Today at 12:27 PM an earthquake of magnitude 3.5 occurred 62 km northeast of Guwahati. The depth of the earthquake was 10 km below the surface,” said the National Center for Seismology. According to sources, no damage was reported in the city. People were safe, no casualties were reported.

Assam Social Welfare Department gave the benefit of over ₹94 crore to the suppliers in 2019-20

The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) has said that the Assam Social Welfare Department procured excessive rates and gave undue benefits of over ₹94 crore to rice and pea suppliers in 2019-20. It also added the report tabled in the state assembly last week. According to sources, the CAG has observed market prices of rice and white peas at ₹40 and ₹62 per kg. It added that the total bill should have been ₹ 297.70 crore, including transportation for procurement of rice and peas. A 17-year-old girl was attacked with battery acid allegedly by a 20-year-old man in Assam’s Barpeta. This was the second such incident reported in Assam in the past three days. A leopard was seen in Assam attacked 13 people

On Monday, a leopard was found moving freely around the campus of Rain Forest Research Institute (RFRI) in Jorhat, Assam. Many Videos and pictures are shared on social media of the leopard. According to the sources, the leopard injured 13 people including three forest personnel and 10 residents of Chenijan area. Residents informed the forest official.
