Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu, a Rs 3,030-crore six-lane bridge on the Brahmaputra River, connecting Guwahati with North Guwahati. The event, attended by Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, saw Modi walk on the bridge, which is currently open only for pedestrians; vehicular traffic will start from March 1. This bridge is the first extradosed structure in Northeast India, designed to reduce travel time to seven minutes.
