Vigilance in Assam operates bribery in government offices, two arrested

Two government employees were arrested under bribery charges, operation led by the vigilance in Assam. Both the charges are from different departments of the government service. According to the sources, the first operation was laid at the Samaria Revenue Circle in Assam’s Kamrup district and another one at the District Agricultural Officer of Goalpara. The identified official is named Pradip Kalita, Supervisor Kanungo of O/O Circle Officer and the second employee has been identified as Budheswar Das. Further, more such operations are underway for bribery cases.

The Assam Government has issued SOP for picnic goers due to the recent tragic incident which took place in Dergaon. Assam CM directs, buses carrying passengers for picnic can only operate after the fog clears in the morning and must arrive before the fog clears in the evening. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "People should not start travelling for picnic so early in the morning. In a move to fostering diversity within the education sector, the Assam Government has decided to reserve three percent of seats for the Tea tribe and Adivasi communities. The state government is all set to assess students performances including school through 'Gunotsav 2024'. Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said, the assessment is to get started by January 3 to February 8 of this year which will conduct an assessment for approximately 40 lakh students state wide. Major collision in Dergaon kills 14 over 27 injured

A bus collided with a truck in Dergaon, Assam which carried 45 passengers, the incident took place on 3 January early hours. According to sources, amongst the 45 passengers, 14 people died and 27 others were injured. The incident took place on the way when the bus was heading towards Tilinga Mandir, Tinsukia where the truck came in contact with the bus. Police reported that the bus passengers were on their way to picnic and were about to reach their destination, a coal-laden truck coming from Margherita collided with the bus.

A team of 16 farmers has successfully exported 500kg of lablab or flat beans to the New Spitalfields market in London, from where farmers’ fresh products go to various European countries. To reports, along with flat beans from Sivasagar, farmers of Tinsukia District have also dispatched 5,000 lemons which are known as Kaji Nemu in Assam. Dhingporiya Mustard FED Producer Company managing director Mantosh Saikia said, “Locals don’t buy lablab beans usually. There was no market for lablab beans. But our unemployed youths, who are from farmers’ families, have got a new export option now.”
