An elephant dies in Assam

A wild elephant was electrocuted near the Napuk tea plantation in Assam's Charideo district. The incident took place on Friday, the elephant died after coming in contact with a live electrical wire. There have been many elephant incidents in Assam so far and the death toll is continuously rising.

Assam Police recovers demonetized notes from District Transport Officer

The vigilance wing of the Assam Police recovered Rs 87,000 worth of canceled notes after raiding the house of a District Transport Officer (DTO) on October 21. The state's Special Director-General of Police, Gyanendra Pratap Singh, said that the vigilance wing has launched a drive against alleged corruption in Dibrugarh DTO. "Sanjeev Hazarika's house was searched and unaccounted cash of ₹7.03 lakh and canceled notes of ₹87,000 were found," he said.

Another suicide attempt at IIT, kharagpur

Assam third year student found in IIT Kharagpur hostel, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma has written a letter to Mamata Banerjee seeking a detailed investigation into the matter. Authorities broke the bolted door and found the body in his hostel room. This is the second death of an IIT student in a week. Fake certificate identified for Assam Police constable post

Program implemented for providing scooters to the students: Assam

The Assam government will distribute scooters to around 36,000 meritorious students, mostly girls, who have passed higher secondary examinations in this year. A proposal to implement the program at a cost of Rs 258.9 crore was passed by the state cabinet on Wednesday, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said after a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma. The minister said the cabinet has decided to make the monthly remuneration of assistant professors working in provincial colleges Rs 55,000 on a permanent salary.
