Cold storage capacity installed in Assam

Assam got a 5,000-tonne capacity cold storage unit. On Tuesday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the project. The area is situated in Chaygaon area along with a fruit-processing centre at the food-processing park at Satabari under Kamrup district. Both the projects were inaugurated by the Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. According to sources, the 5,000-metric-tonne cold-storage facility has been constructed by the Assam State Agricultural Marketing Board at a cost of Rs 24.75 crore. Also, the fruit-processing unit has been built at a cost of Rs 2.89 crore.

13-years old girl gets raped by six boys

A 13-year-old girl was raped by six minor boys in the Karimganj district of Assam. Police said that all the boys had been arrested so far. According to sources, the boys were 13-15 years old. As the girl was alone at home, they allegedly forced their way into the house and raped her. Later, the boys took video of the incident and assaulted her. The girl was scared to tell her family about the incident. She informed and complaint filed was registered in the Police station. Assam to abolish 8000 vacant posts of teachers

A large number of contractual faculty members are already working through Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA). So Assam government will vacate 8000 posts of teachers till contract teachers retire. According to sources, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said the state government has offered tenure to 11,206 contractual teachers from the age of 60 in 2020. The Assam government has decided to allow around 20 new Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) shops in the state. According to sources, Excise Minister Parimal Suklabaidya said there are several areas in Assam where people drink duty-free liquor due to lack of wine shops. He said, “We have decided to set up 20 shops to ensure that people drink alcohol from genuine places and do not harm their health. In the process these people will pay taxes and get quality liquor”. Also, in May 2020 Assam increased the excise duty on Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) by 25 percent.

The court suspended the contractors repairing the ill-fated bridge at Morbi in Gujarat. The court said the contractors were not competent to do such work. According to reports, while replacing the floor of the bridge, its cable was not replaced and it could not take the weight of the replaced flooring, the prosecution told the magistrate's court, citing a forensic report. 135 people lost their lives when the bridge collapsed on Sunday evening.
