The decomposed body of a polling official, who went missing on the election day, was recovered in Karbi Anglong district of Assam. Locals alerted the authorities after they spotted the body of Cornelius Kindu at a secluded area in Rongwongwey on April 18. Kindu, who was the third officer at the No. 19 Sarpo Kathar LP School polling station, had been missing since April 9. He reportedly left the polling station during the election process after stating that he was feeling unwell. Authorities are yet to ascertain the cause of death. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding his death. A search operation was launched after Kindu failed to reach his Diphu residence, but it yielded no results. Drones were also used to trace the polling official in the hilly and thickly forested terrain.
