Digital Tools Aim to Transform Coastal Agriculture

The Government of Bangladesh has launched a Smart Farming initiative in Khulna to support coastal farmers facing climate disruptions. Using IoT sensors, mobile apps, and weather alerts, the project helps farmers manage water, fertilizer, and pest control more efficiently. The pilot involves 2,000 farmers growing shrimp and rice in flood-prone areas. Experts from BRAC and Japan’s JICA are collaborating on the project. The technology could be scaled across low-lying regions in India and Nepal. Similar programs are already being tested in Assam and Bihar, creating opportunities for cross-border agri-tech cooperation.

APSC scam officers can’t return, but may work elsewhere

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday firmly stated that the recent Gauhati High Court ruling in connection with the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) cash-for-jobs scam does not direct the reinstatement of any of the dismissed officers implicated in the case. Speaking at a press conference in Guwahati, the Chief Minister said, “We examined the High Court order yesterday. There is no instruction for reinstating the officers. The court has only directed the government to issue discharge orders without referring to the APSC scam.” He clarified that the court's suggestion was to remove the "stigmatic" nature of the…

France becomes one of the first EU countries to impose a full ban on disposables. Meanwhile, policymakers in Bangladesh and India, facing similar trends,…
