Hindi has been introduced as the fourth official language of the Assam Legislative Assembly from the Budget session beginning on Monday.Assam Assembly Speaker Ranjeet Kumar Dass announced that along with Assamese, English and Bodo, Hindi would be introduced in the Assembly, saying that the decision was taken at the General-Purpose Committee meeting held on Saturday.Dass said that the existing official languages would continue to be used in the House. Assam Identified Over 1.72 Lakh Foreigners, 31,789 Deported; 70 Applied for Citizenship Under CAA

The Assam government has identified a total of 1,72,673 foreigners in the state under the provisions of the Assam Accord, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma informed the Assam Legislative Assembly in a written reply. According to the government, 31,789 identified foreigners have been deported as of June 30, 2026. At the same time, cases involving 73,759 suspected foreigners are still pending before Foreigners' Tribunals. The state currently has three Transit Camps/Holding Centres located at Matia in Goalpara district, Charaikhola in Kokrajhar district, and Eraligol in Sribhumi district.
