Assam to Introduce Olympic Values Education in 40,000+ Schools

The Assam government has decided to expand the Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP) to more than 40,000 schools across all 35 districts of the state, with the objective of promoting discipline, teamwork and overall personality development among students.Announcing the initiative on Monday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the state’s education policy goes beyond academic achievement and places equal emphasis on developing life skills and values among young learners. Sharing details of the programme, Sarma said the government is committed to nurturing a generation of students who are prepared to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

“Beyond academic excellence, we prioritise building discipline and teamwork in our students. Through the Olympic Values Education Programme, we are taking these lessons to 40,000+ schools across Assam and nurturing a generation ready to excel both inside and outside the classroom,” the chief minister said. The programme aims to introduce students to the core Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect while encouraging healthy lifestyles, stronger academic focus and greater social inclusion. Officials said the initiative has been designed to combine classroom learning with character-building activities that help students develop leadership qualities, teamwork and a spirit of fair play. The expanded programme will also support teachers by providing tools and methods to integrate values-based education into daily classroom activities. By linking education with personal growth and social responsibility, the government hopes to create a more holistic learning environment for students across the state.

According to officials, the large-scale expansion is expected to benefit lakhs of students and strengthen efforts to promote discipline, confidence and positive social behaviour among the younger generation. The initiative is also seen as part of the state’s broader efforts to make education more inclusive and focused on the overall development of children.
